MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 24, 2010 – Mexico defeated Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) in Pool B first day of the men’s volleyball tournament at the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games. The winners took advantage of 29 unforced errors by the opponent and had a blocking margin of -4.
Ivan Contreras topped Mexico with 12 points and Jose Martell and Tomas Aguilera each recorded 8 points with Martell registering 4 blocks. Trinidadian Nolan Tash compiled a match-high 15 points.
“We still need to fine-tune some points but I think we will be ready for our Monday’s match against Puerto Rico,” Contreras said.
“It was a decent match for us to start and I hope we can improve from today on,” Tash said. “We made some errors here and there with our passing.”

Ivan Contreras to stay in Knack Randstad for the 2010-2011 season.
Ivan Contreras decides to stay one more year in Belgium with Knack Randstad Roeselare, a team with which he has had a lot of great memories and why not go for yet another successful season in 2010-2011.
With Knack Randstad, Ivan has been Belgium Champion 4 times, Belgium Cup Winner two times, European Champion and has played Champions League 8 seasons. Not many players get a chance to say that about their career with a particular team and Ivan is proud of it.
Now he will focus on staying in shape to join at a good level his National Team with which he will play some key tournaments during the summer as preparation for the first showing of Mexico in the World Championships in 3 decades.
