Ivan Contreras to stay in Knack Randstad for the 2010-2011 season.

Ivan Contreras decides to stay one more year in Belgium with Knack Randstad Roeselare, a team with which he has had a lot of great memories and why not go for yet another successful season in 2010-2011.

With Knack Randstad, Ivan has been Belgium Champion 4 times, Belgium Cup Winner two times, European Champion and has played Champions League 8 seasons.  Not many players get a chance to say that about their career with a particular team and Ivan is proud of it.

Now he will focus on staying in shape to join at a good level his National Team with which he will play some key tournaments during the summer as preparation for the first showing of Mexico in the World Championships in 3 decades.

Knack takes the Championship!!!

In a match full of stress and good level Knack clinches the Championship in the Belgian Competition.  In front of a packed Schiervelde which can sit about 2500 people Knack showed once again why they had survived all the difficult moments during the playoffs when they had to play with a lot of injuries.  5 or 6 weeks ago nobody thought our guys in blue were even capable of reaching the final and with that having a European ticket for the club next season but they did it.  They not only accomplished that European ticket by reaching the final but on top of that they were able to secure home advantage for the finals which as everybody know now was more important for the outcome since every time the home team won the match.

There was a difference in the way Knack came out to play last night.  It was a team full of determination and willingness to win it all and to show once more how close a group inside the court they were during the last weeks of competition.  Noliko on the other side and thanks to the pressure our guys were able to put on them made some mistakes during play that normally they had not made before.

It seemed that Knack was going to take the match with a 3-0 score but once again Noliko showed how in volleyball it is never finished until the last point is declared by the referee and came back from a 21-19 score to take that 3rd set  21-25 thanks to great services from their opposite.  In the fourth set Knack is able to build some lead and to defend it until the end to finally take the match and Championship for the 2009-2010 season.

Scores of the match were: 25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22.  Stats of the match here.

They will go the distance!!!

In yet another 5 setter, Maaseik prevails and takes the 4th match of the Playoffs Final to force a decisive 5th one next Saturday in Schiervelde.

Maaseik played at a high level all night while our guys in blue had patches of good play and patches of really poor actions.

One thing was evident, Knack could not control the service pressure of one particular player in the Maaseik side during that 5th set and that made the difference at the end when they were unable to change possession of the ball while he was at service.

Hopefully Knack can come out on Saturday with a fighting mentality since they will need it as it has been proved that any of both teams can win it all this year.

Scores of the match were: 25-21, 19-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-5.

Knack wins yet another nail biter!!

If you don't have a strong heart then for sure you don't want to watch the final of the Belgian Championship between Knack Randstad Roeselare and Noliko Maaseik.  There have been 3 matches played so far and all 3 have gone the distance, 5 sets!  All of them have been stressful for everybody, players, fans and also referees who have played an important role in some matches.

Last night's match was no different where Knack had the pressure of defending once again their home court against a team that because they had miraculous come back and won the second final in Maaseik had a lot of confidence and it showed.

The first set was a set full of indecisions and good play by Maaseik, they took it with a close score of 23-25.  The second was also a close one but at the end Knack was able to make a difference and take it with a 25-21 score.

The third set was a better one in terms of competitiveness and it went longer than normal and in an exciting fashion our guys in blue were able to clinch it with a 29-27 score.

By then everybody wished that Knack could finish the match in 4 sets and start thinking about the next match in Maaseik but the opponents had other plans for the night.  They played their best volleyball so far and forced a 5th set by taking the 4th with an easy score of 18-25.

The 5th and decisive set was again a set of nerves and a set of overcoming obstacles.  It kept being tight but at the end Knack was able to pull away a couple of points and tonight as a difference in last match in Maaseik they were able to defend that important lead to finish the game at 15-9.

Now both teams who still have equal chance to win it all face again on Wednesday in the Lotto Dome for the 4th time and it promises to be once again a close one and an exciting one to watch,  hope you make the trip and support your favorite color who we hope is blue.

Maaseik ties the final!!

For all of those that thought that Maaseik was finished and Knack would win the final in 3 because of the fact that they had won most of the matches they had played each other, well it is time to rethink your assumptions.

Tonight we saw how any team can come away with a win in any particular night.  Maaseik had a chance to win in 4 sets tonight but Knack hung on and forced a 5th set where everything seemed to be going well for our guys in blue until they reached the 10th point and got stuck in a rotation.  From then on it was all Maaseik and at the en they come out with a great comeback and a win to tie the Final Series at one match a piece.

Now both teams will face each other once more in Schiervelde where we all saw how close the competition was.  If anybody expects still an easy roll over win for Knack Randstad Roeselare in this finals well, then that person has not seen any of the first two matches these two teams have had against each other.

Final score of the match:  25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26 and 15-11.  For stats click here.  Hope to see you all on Saturday supporting our guys in blue.
